Lake District Travel.

How do you get here
The lake district lies to the north west of England. It is an area of over 800 square miles, easily accessible by road and RAIL via Oxenholme near Kendal. The Oxenholme station is on the West Coast main line, a route that is served by Virgin trains national rail carriers. From here trains can be caught for Windermere, a very popular and central location.

By Road the main west coast motorway, the M6, runs to the east of the lakes with several A roads linking the motorway with major towns. From the south take the A591 at Junction 36 to take you in via Kendal and Windermere. And from the North the A66 at Junction 40 links Penrith with Keswick. In peak months (Easter to early September) these roads get very busy and may add substantial time to your journey.

Local Travel
If you are not driving and you want to see the Lake District, you really only have two options .... By foot, start walking, or public transport.
By far the best way, if using public transport to see the lakes, is to use the " Mountain Goat ".
Mountain Goat is a travel company based in Windermere. They offer Touring & Walking, Short Breaks, Daily Tours, Private Hire, and can cater for Group Arrangements. They also offer my favourite the Cumbrian Ale Trail, a tour of lakelands finest pubs and brewerys offering classic real ales and traditional pub meals.... I digress.
They also do a shuttle service to various locations in the region, dropping walkers and visitors off at key locations. Check out the site by clicking on the link above.
