The Lake District National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty in the county of Cumbria, North West England. It spans an area of approx 885 Sq miles of wild rugged terrain. With over 150 mountains above 2000 feet, 16 lakes and over 70 other tarns, it is regarded by many as having Britains most scenic landscape, and is the location for some 14 million visitors each year, many from overseas.

If you are looking for walks, check out the walking link. We will be listing walks in all areas of the Lakes to suit everyone. If you're a sunday afternoon stroller then why not try the "Grasmere - via slate caves from Ambleside" walk, or if you get your kicks from traversing the high ridges, try "Helvelyn - via striding edge from Glenridding". Whatever you choose, its all in our walking section.

If Boating is your pleasure, we have that too. A cruise down windermere via Bowness to Lakeside. Or renting rowing boats from the quaint Faeryland cafe on grasmere ..... in fact, we have it all ....

Keswick ... "The Jewel in the Lake District Crown"

Boat on Derwent Water This beautiful market town on the north shore of Derwent Water is a must see for any visitor to the Lakes. Dating way back to the 13th century, Keswick's history is fascinating. This small town produced the worlds first pencil ... and the pencil industry remains today, including the Cumberland Pencil Museum and the world's largest pencil.

It's quaint streets, narrow alleys and great restaurants and bars are a joy to wander and visit. Keswick has an annual Beer Festival, Jazz Festival and a Film Festival which keep the town very busy in summer. As a starting point, Keswick could not be better. It's centrally located, ideal for walkers wanting to trek the mountains of Skidaw, Great Calve and Saddleback.

For Photographers and artists it's location on the shore of Derwent Water could not be better and is one reason why visitors come back here time and time again. On Saturdays the Town center is the location for the Keswick street market where visitors can buy anything from local fresh produce to jewellery, art and bric a brac.

Do you need accommodation in Keswick ? Keswick Hotels .

Lakeland Camping

Camping in the Lake District is one of the best ways to see what the National Park has to offer. Where else can you wake up next to Englands deepest Lake, Englands highest mountain, or Englands most beautiful view.... Grasmere from Loughrigg terrace (I put that one in myself, it's my favourite)

Take a look at our camp site pages. The lake district offers camp sites for all people at all times of the year, whatever the season. There are simple farm sites that take just a handful of visitors to sprawling landscaped caravan parks with swimming pools, bars, and restaurants. There are sites off the beaten track that need a map and compass to locate them and there are sites close by towns like Windermere and Keswick, ideal for nipping in to at night for a drink and a meal.

Camp site in the woods We have split them in to North and South Lakes for ease. Each one has a key to identify the main facilities. Contact details and website addresses are also included. All we ask is that when contacting the sites you mention Lake District Discovered ... that way the site becomes more popular and we can create a bigger and better site for you the visitor.

Good Luck on your next camping trip to the Lakes
